For sure one of the best hotels in the planet. It is the ultimate experience for enjoying Marrakech in an environment of elegance, charm, tranquility and above all, in peace. It is as if time stops and we are taken to another dimension: just perfect.
La Mamounia, Marrakech’s iconic hotel reopened its doors on 29 September 2009 following an extensive three year restoration project led by internationally acclaimed interior designer, Jacques Garcia. This legendary hotel which has hosted the who’s who of international royalty, politicians, celebrities and the jet set, has 136 stylish guest rooms, 71 suites including seven Signature Suites and three riads.
The La Mamounia Hotel is a five-star palatial hotel in Morocco. It faces the Atlas mountains and is at the heart of the old city of Marrakech.
On some days during the three years it took to restore Marrakech’s undisputed grandedame hotel, more than 1,000 craftsmen were at work on the site.
Parisian designer Jacques Garcia, entrusted with returning the 1923 property to its former glory, sought out the city’s most talented painters and wood carvers.
The craftsmen he chose laid millions of hand-cut tiles, pieced together wood-marquetry walls, carved ornate designs into plaster columns and forged hundreds of handmade lanterns.
Thanks to them, the palace is once again a vibrant celebration of the city’s past, present and future, displaying Moroccan style, complete with intricate patterns and arabesques based on Berber and Arab-Andalusian traditions.
For 90 years La Mamounia has emphasized the great traditions of Moroccan hospitality and attracted royalty, connoisseurs and celebrities to relax in an atmosphere that combines history with enchantment and luxury. Today the hotel reflects a pure Moroccan style with contemporary art and antique pieces.
