From the editors of British Vogue
ARRIVING in the slipstream of a global superstar such as Rihanna, there was a possibility you would be crushed as casually as the slender delphiniums that forested Christian Dior‘s majestic domed show space within the Louvre, at the 2nd of October 20015, such was the surge of fans desperate for a glimpse of their beloved RiRi. All credit to her star-like composure, swathed in a Dior cashmere fur-decorated cape and thigh-high latex booties, she was certainly not breaking sweat like the rest of us in the surprise burst of autumn heat – even the flowers were gently drooping. No one other than Lauren has ever held the position in the company’s 50-year existence. Continue Reading…
See the best looks from Dolce & Gabbana, Spring – Summer 2016 here:
IN what turned out to be quite the meta Dolce & Gabbana show this afternoon, the selfie and the rise of social media reigned supreme.
Pre-show we were warned that the models would be taking selfies with us – this of course is while we were taking snaps of them and an Italian fruit stall set-up at the entrance of the catwalk made for Insta-perfection. They were taking pictures, we were taking pictures; you were seeing the pictures that we might be in, you were seeing the pictures they might be in. It was a social media love in. Smile; say cheese; pull out that pout. Continue Reading…
See the Best Looks of Roberto Cavalli, Spring – Summer 2016 here:
THE instalment of a new creative director can go one of two ways – it’s either about revolution (as at Gucci) or evolution: that’s what Peter Dundas did atRoberto Cavalli yesterday, as he finally made his debut after it was announced back in March this year. Continue Reading…
See the best looks from Prada Spring – Summer 2016 Collection here:
MIUCCIA PRADA gave us a very clever show this evening – it was a new way of dressing with all of your favourite clothes. It was her classic bad-taste-good-taste mash-up and with so much to wear, a magpie’s dream to dissect.
The models looked like sticks of rock in their striped skirt suits and coats with a bit of space-age thrown in. It all felt so modern: gold lips and bauble Christmas decoration earrings that later morphed into jangling sequins that descended as epaulettes on the shoulders of dropped-waist dresses. See the best looks from Emilio Pucci Spring – Summer 2016 Collection here:
THERE’S something in the Milanese air at the moment and it’s called change. Alessandro Michele started it at Gucci with his all-shining overhaul and it’s something that’s spread on over to Emilio Pucci, which received an about-turn touch from MSGM creative director Massimo Giorgetti today. An Italian favourite, he’s been a rising star ever since he launched MSGM back in 2009. Known for its – and his – penchant for colour, he seemed the ideal match to take on the Emilio Pucci mantle when Peter Dundas stepped down from the label in March to take over at Roberto Cavalli, at which he’ll make his debut this weekend. A rainbow palette and some historical details – see the best looks from Karl Lagerfeld’s Fendi show in Milan here:
BIG sleeves and high necks, there was an Edwardian feel to the Fendi collection this afternoon – even slouchy bombers getting a historical and voluminous revamp with billowing leg-of-mutton sleeve action. Continue Reading…
“Tender has something to do with Beauty,” Alessandro Michele on the Women’s Spring Summer 2016 Fashion Show. Here, only the best from Gucci Spring/Summer 2016 :
FOR his second ready-to-wear collection at Gucci, Alessandro Michele (who took over from Frida Giannini at the beginning of this year), presented a wealth of ideas that firmly and strongly built on what he started to show us his intentions were last season.
But where those had a slight softly-softly approach, this time the ideas came with gusto, staunchly setting out to follow up and consolidate what he started and take it somewhere even better. You know this is going to be one very desirable collection and one that will have significant impact on the season ahead. Continue Reading…
London Fashion Week…
ON the face of it, it was the usual fanfare at the Burberry Prorsum show in Hyde Park: there were stressed ushers in day-glo jackets directing traffic with military precision, headset-wearing security at every check point, and suited staff guiding show goers to velvet upholstered seats.
