Santorini,
the Greek island which connects its name with Saint Irene, named by the Latin Empire in the thirteenth century, as a reference to Saint Irene, from the name of the old cathedral in the village of Perissa . The name Santorini is a contraction of the name Santa Irini.

What makes Santorini and its group of islands so unique is that it is the only volcano in the world having its Caldera (crater) into the sea.
