CHIC TRAVEL: 5 GORGEOUS VILLAS IN THE SOUTH OF FRANCE

January 5, 2015

From the editors of TownandCountryMag.com it’s never too early to get a head start on planning your next vacation. These gorgeous villas will provide plenty of inspiration.

Domaine de Manville, Les Baux-de-Provence

Locals Patrick and Edith Saut spent a decade transforming a 100-acre, circa 1908 cereal farm into a country retreat that’s about as idyllic as it gets. Opened in July, Domaine de Manville has 30 quaint guest rooms, a garden spa, pool, and an 18-hole golf course surrounded by olive groves and Cypress trees. At the backyard restaurant, young talent Steve Deconinck (another local) serves free-range lamb chops, fresh Provençal produce from black olive tapenade to slow-roasted tomatoes, and desserts made with honey cultivated on site. Barnyard touches abound, most notably the roosters and sheep who roam the property. Rooms from $302 a night; domainedemanville.fr Continue Reading…

The Plaza’s Fitzgerald Suite

December 29, 2014

Sleep Like The Great Gatsby in NYC: The Plaza’s Fitzgerald Suite

The Plaza's Fitzgerald Suite: The Bedroom

To the last detail, the suite honors F. Scott Fitzgerald, the 1920s and the Great Gatsby movie, but what are some of the most interesting items on hand, and how does the design of the suite reflect that particular era?

Every detail of the suite relates to Fitzgerald’s life and his time at The Plaza as well as Baz Luhrmann’s film. Dome ceilings surrounded by antique mirrors feature 1920’s Odeon Glass Fringe Chandeliers. The bedspread and towels are custom embroidered with the Jay Gatsby and Daisy-inspired monogram, seen frequently throughout the film. The walls are adorned with portraits of the 2013 film cast captured by legendary Hollywood photographer Douglas Kirkland, images of Fitzgerald and his wife, and 1920s photos from Vogue and Vanity Fair. Bookshelves are filled with the author’s complete works and books that inspired the filmmakers throughout production, as well as classic RH accessories. Guests will also find entertainment in RH’s vintage board games, including Monopoly, which originated during the era, iconic Gramophone-shaped iPhone and iPad speakers, custom Tiffany & Co. playing cards, and coffee table books that invoke languorous summers on the Gold Coast or the vibrant New York of the Roaring `20s.

5 CASTLES AROUND THE WORLD TO STAY IN

December 28, 2014

From Spanish fortresses to Devonshire follies, which fairy-tale castle will

                     you stay in?

Cap Rocat, Spain
Cut into the cliffs of a private peninsula on Majorca’s Bay of Palma, a golden castle-cum-hotel welcomes guests. The sandstone walls and crenellations of this former fortress teeter above more than a mile of secluded coastline. The castle opened to the public in 2010 after a refurbishment by Claudia Schiffer’s personal architect, Antonio Obrador. The 24 spacious and stylish bedrooms carry reminders of the building’s past: there are bullets for door handles, and gun carriages reworked as coffee tables; the original gunpowder bunker is now a magical events space. You’ll also find a glittering saltwater swimming pool overlooking the bay, along with an endless supply of fresh seafood.
Cap Rocat (+34 971 747 878), from about  $535 a suite a night B&B. Continue Reading…
