The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have formally registered the birth of Princess Charlotte.
CHARLOTTE: the feminine version of Charles. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge maybe choose this name in honour of the Duke’s father, the Prince of Wales.
ELIZABETH: in honour of Charlotte’s great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, but also her great-great grandmother, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
DIANA: in honour of Charlotte’s late grandmother Diana, Princess of Wales.
Charlotte has also historic royal links.
Queen Charlotte, who was married with King George III, was Queen Consort from 1761 untile her death in 1818.
In 1766 King George III and Queen Charlotte had a daughter, Princess Charlotte, Princess Royal.
King George IV and his wife Caroline had a daughter, Princess Charlotte of Wales.
Charlotte is also the middle name the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister Pippa and Elizabeth the Duchess’ middle name.
The Duke of Cambridge signed the birth register at Kensington Palace, witnessed by a Registrar from Westminster Register Office.
