Victoria Beckham , Autumn – Winter 2016 -17

February 14, 2016

“THIS collection is really about the evolution of my personal style,” said Victoria Beckham during a preview before her show this morning. Her brand began some fifteen seasons ago with a line up of ten dresses – and it has come a long way since then with an announcement this morning of a new 2,200sq ft store opening in the heart of Hong Kong. She was feeling reflective, wanting to readdress the wardrobe pieces that she has loved over the years. Cue the corset. “I wanted to find a new cool, fresh way of wearing it again, making it more daywear, more modern.”

See  the main points here:

That idea manifested by de-boning it, and making it in lighter, softer fabrics. It popped up with alluring slices to reveal the skin, worked into engineered knits and one in a slinky rib trimmed with ivory silk came partnered with a pair of high waisted black trousers, a look, Victoria pointed out, as one of her favourites. “I go to so many red carpet events, and this is exactly what I want to wear on the red carpet right now.” You could already see her in it, along with every other look presented in what was one of Victoria’s most confident, tightly edited collections to date.

She revisited the slip dress too, keeping the bra-shape top but adding volume via bubble skirts, which hovered around midi length. Coats here were also standout, from fringed blanket styles to mannish overcoats in heritage tweed and punctuated with oversized buttons. Just the ticket for bracing today’s -16 temperatures, which feel more like -24 with the wind chill.

“I came out of my hotel this morning and the wind hit me. My trousers stuck to my legs like leggings and even my hair parting felt instantly frozen,” laughed Victoria. “I started out the week in heels,” she shrugs, looking down at her box fresh white trainers, which she teamed with black trousers and a cashmere ivory sweater from a past collection. This may not be the easiest of weather to dress for, but plenty of desirable options here.
